THE THIRD TEACHER

Designed for Discovery At The Clifton School, we believe the physical environment acts as a “third teacher”.

Every element of our campuses—from the lighting to the architecture—is intentionally designed to invite exploration and foster connection.

ABOUT CLIFTON

Our Staff

We invest deeply in the professional growth of our educators. Ongoing professional development includes weekly planning meetings, monthly faculty meetings, conferences, in-service training, and classroom coaching with consultants. Collaboration is central to our culture — teachers plan, reflect, and grow together.
Qualifications: All lead teachers meet the standards aligned with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation, holding a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

Curriculum Coordinators: In our constructivist approach, we believe children are naturally curious and capable learners. They are not empty vessels, but active participants who grow through meaningful exploration.

Our Curriculum Coordinator partners with teachers to design engaging learning opportunities based on children’s interests. Through long-term projects and guided inquiry, children investigate real-world ideas, ask questions, and test their theories across subjects like math, language, and science.

The Curriculum Coordinator also collaborates with staff and families to support reflection, problem-solving, and continuous growth across the school community.

Our Teachers:
  • Build nurturing, respectful, and encouraging relationships with each child
  • Create inviting, thoughtfully designed environments that emphasize natural materials
  • Observe children closely, document learning, and use those insights to guide planning
  • Support children in expressing their knowledge and ideas through a variety of representational media

Careers

A Community-Led, Mission-Driven Organization

Our daily operations are led by an Executive Director and dedicated Site Directors at each of our three campuses—Clifton, Clairmont, and Sheridan Road. Together, they ensure consistent leadership, high-quality programming, and a strong sense of community across all locations.

The Clifton School is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors composed of representatives from our founding partner institutions:

Emory University

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

This community-based governance structure provides thoughtful oversight and strategic guidance, ensuring responsible financial stewardship, long-term sustainability, and continued alignment with the needs of the families we serve. As a nonprofit, all resources are reinvested directly into our programs, staff, facilities, and the ongoing strength of our learning communities.

Diversity & Community

At The Clifton School, belonging is not a slogan—it is a lived experience. Our community reflects the diversity of the families we serve, representing a wide range of cultures, languages, identities, perspectives, and lived experiences. This richness strengthens our classrooms and deepens learning for everyone.

We believe children thrive when they see themselves reflected in their environment and when they learn alongside others whose experiences may differ from their own. Our approach fosters empathy, curiosity, and respect—laying the foundation for inclusive, compassionate communities.

Families are essential partners in this work. We welcome parents and caregivers to share their traditions, stories, and values, helping us create classrooms that are culturally responsive and reflective of our community. Together, we cultivate an environment where every child and every family feels seen, valued, and connected.

Join Our Team

With three campuses serving families from Emory University, Emory Healthcare, CHOA, and the CDC, The Clifton School is expanding — and so are our opportunities.

We seek thoughtful, qualified educators who appreciate children, embrace constructivist-based practices, and thrive in a collaborative, professional environment. As we continue to grow, we are committed to supporting our teachers through ongoing professional development, strong leadership, and a stable, mission-driven organization.

At The Clifton School, we see the environment as a third teacher. Our thoughtfully designed classrooms and shared spaces encourage curiosity, exploration, and meaningful engagement.

While each location is unique, all reflect our shared philosophy and commitment to child-centered design. Classrooms support ongoing learning and collaboration, with additional spaces throughout each site that foster connection beyond the classroom.

At The Clifton School, support is woven into every layer of our organization. Our Curriculum Coordinators work closely with teaching teams to provide coaching, classroom guidance, and ongoing professional development, ensuring that learning experiences remain thoughtful, responsive, and aligned with best practices in early childhood education. Our administrative team is equally committed to teacher education and professional growth, investing in training, mentorship, and reflective practice so that educators feel confident, valued, and continually supported in their careers.

We also recognize that strong support extends beyond the classroom. Our Early Intervention Coordinators partner with families and educators to identify needs early, provide guidance, and connect children to appropriate resources when needed. Through proactive collaboration and individualized attention, we help ensure that every child—and every family—receives the support necessary to thrive socially, emotionally, and developmentally.
