Health & Safety

Keeping Our Community Safe

To maintain a safe environment for every child and staff member, The Clifton School strictly adheres to the following wellness and safety protocols.

Children must remain home if they exhibit symptoms such as

  • Fever: A temperature of 101.0° F or higher.
  • Respiratory: Persistent cough, sore throat, conjunctivitis, difficulty breathing.
  • Gastrointestinal: Vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Other Symptoms: Unexplained rash, muscle aches, headache, or if they are not well enough to participate in daily activities.

Returning to School

Children may return after being symptom-free for 24 hours. If the symptom includes a fever, they must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and may be required to provide a doctor’s note. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for full details of our illness policy.

Inclement Weather Closures During severe weather, we prioritize the safety of our families and staff.

  • The “Both” Rule: The Clifton School will only close or delay opening if BOTH Emory University and the CDC announce a closure or delay.
  • Mid-Day Closures: If weather conditions deteriorate during the school day (e.g., icy roads), parents are requested to pick up their children immediately to ensure our teachers can travel home safely.
  • Communication: Alerts will be sent via our calling post and email listserv, and posted on our website

Staff Safety & Training

You can rest assured that your child is in capable hands. Every member of our faculty undergoes extensive background checks and maintains current certifications in CPR and First Aid. Additionally, all staff receive training in universal precautions to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and safety are met in the classroom
